PostSubject: Expeditions   Thu Dec 04, 2008 7:11 am

Hey there guys (and gals),
I was wondering if someone could tell me anything about Expeditions and your point of view on them. This is a new concept for me in Ogame and i wanted to know if you had any recommendations about it, whether to use it or not.
The wiki page on expeditions
Thanks a bunch in advance.

Expeditions......

OGame's definition of Gambling...Because that's exactly what you will be doing....

I'll give you the Basics of Expeditions. You CAN lose your fleet, BUT, you can find Resources, Dark Matter, Ships....and yes, even fight Pirates (that way you can kick Jack Sparrow in the Nuts...lol). Anyway, many things can happen. I'm not sure if I've gone up against everything yet. But, If you are bored and you have nothing else to attack for the day, go on an expedition. Keep in mind, the longer you stay on the expedition, the greater the reward and the greater the risk. Good luck and Good Hunting.

Bombers are also the preferred ship for expedition use, as they're not too expensive compared to BC's and destroyers, but are more durable then Battleships. I suggest bombers, LC's and cruisers for expedition missions.

I personally like expeditions, because I don't fleetsave very well, so I figure if I keep my fleet off of my planet sometimes, it'll help. Besides, you can find resources, ships, and even dark matter while doing it. Currently, I have expedition tech lvl 5, but have only tried up to a lvl 4 expedition. Some thing's I've had occur on that would be finding 3 bc's, getting attacked by pirates and losing a few cargoes, and delays. In my experience of expeditions, I have never had a fleet just disappear or blow up randomly, so I'm not sure that that is possible. I think the only way to lose a fleet on expeditions is through pirate attacks.

By the way ds, I'd have to disagree with you. My suggestion for ships used would be battlecruisers, cruisers, and cargoes. The reason for this is that they are faster, so you'll be able to do more expeditions with a certain amount of time, and they are more helpful than bombers against enemy fleets. Bombers do not work well against enemy fleets, and all it'll do is fight to a stalemate, while losing many of your cargoes.

I see where your coming from, as battlecruisers are the trumpcard against pretty much everything you'll find in a hostile fleet during an expedition. Speed is handy if you want to do multiple expeditions in a single day.

I prefer bombers for several reasons. First off, once you reach the higher levels of expedition, the possible maximum hold time for a searches starts to get long i.e. expedition tech of five = five hours of hours of searching. I only have once chance to run about one expedition on weekdays (I get back from school around 4:30).

- 1 hour of transit time to x:xxx:16
- 5 hours searching
- 1 hours on the return.

By not using a bomber, I can shave off 10 - 30 minutes off the round trip total, since ship speed does not take effect when the ships are in the expedition itself. Even without using bombers, the trip still takes a total of ~6.7 hours, and that is when things start to get late for me. There really isn't a huge difference in speed.

In my opinion, speed really isn't even an issue. I would rather send my ships at a low speed so they can return when i'm active the next day, rather then have them sit at your planet vulnerable for the night. Realistically, there there is no reason to warrant BC's over Bombers simply because of their speed.

In regards to combat, both attacks by aliens and pirates are probable. Pirates have 3 levels of technology lower then you, and aliens have three levels higher. In the case of attacking pirates, your fleet often outnumbers them and destroys them in a couple rounds. Aliens, however, can pose a problem. With three techs higher then you, they can do heavy damage and even destroy your fleet. In both cases, your fleet cannot harvest or obtain the debris field, so there is no point in destroying the opposing fleet. In your case (I would assume you use primary small cargos since your focusing on speed) SC's are easily defeated in droves. LC's are at least a little bit more hardy in the event of an attack. Both alien attacks and the whole elimination of your fleet (It is possible) are things to take into account while sending a fleet. If you are willing to risk BC's on a mission where they may be destroyed without any chance of fighting back, then go for it. I think it's high risk, medium return.

Also, because of the "units" Bombers are made up of, and how the calculations are done for discovering ships, bombers can find Destroyers while other ships cannot.

In the end, it comes down to sheer preference, but this is why I prefer bombers over battlecruisers on risky expeditions.

LMAO....Justin....

Really NOT a risk taker huh???? Just Kidding......Anyway....... Good Job

I know I gave just a Basic explanation of Expeditions, and everyone who has posted since, is right. There is NO exact formula as to how to carry out a successful expedition mission. What it boils down to is, personal preference. I like to send out SC, LF escort and possibly some HF and/or Cruisers. I have about a 70% success rate. Not bad, in the whole scheme of things. But, think about this...Don't you run the same risk every time you send an attack on someones planet???? Yeah, yeah....We have Probes. That IS the only difference. Can you imagine sending an attack without them? It's a MAJOR gamble. Therefore, I send out expeditions very rarely. Once, maybe twice every couple of weeks. Even then, I don't send out what I can't afford to lose.

My advice would be....Go to the Main Ogame Board and look for a FAQ or guide to Expeditions. I plan to after I'm done on THIS Forum. Anyway, Good Luck with the Expeditions.

You want to know the thing be hind expedition missions is this

Send lots of Esp, about 100, Send with it 50 Largo cargos and send 25 Battleships,

Esp make your percent of finding fleet higher, and the largo cargoes make it to were you can hold more fleet. Tha 25 battleships or battle cruisers are there just in case you run in to Pirates.

Hope that helps y'all

PS: NEVER NEVER NEVER Fleetsave using expedition, Thats the most easiest target for A timeback.
