They generally indicate the END of a sentence, somethign that a thread like this needs, otherwise it just deteriorates into a mulch of meaningless gibberish. If somebody puts a full-stop/period/whatever-you-call-it-where-you-come-from at the end of or in the middle of their post, please remember THEY JUST ENDED THE PREVIOUS SENTENCE.
